Then why don't you send your own shoes to Africa if you feel so strongly about it?

I think you meant WASTE...not waist

Anonymous said...

Why dont you start off by spelling "waste" right dumbass

Anonymous said...

yes, because what african people need are flip flops more than everything!!
Seriously is not like it's made out of food or medicine, they're damn flip flops!!

Anonymous said...

surely this was just a temporary exhibit. They could have sent the shoes to Africa after.

Anonymous said...

i think this is awesome. and how about instead of worrying about people in other countries, the correct comment would have been "instead of giving them to the homeless in our own damn country". stupid people. aren't there any patriots out there anymore??

This "art" likely cost thousands of dollars, the comment about sending the shoes to Africa is right, whether they used correct grammar or not. To the person who said "Yes because what would people do without shoes? its not like humans have ever lived without them" I would like to see you live an entire lifetime without shoes. The money or shoes used for this project could have been used in a much better way than this. With people starving and being slaughtered around the globe I think there are more pressing matters than the artwork we choose to display in parks around the country.

waist shoes???? Surely you mean waste? If you must criticize at least learn to spell.

This isn't art, its garbage.

Why does our governments waste millions on dollars on this ugly shit! Our money! Taxpayers money have been used to fund this crap. The money didn't go to schools, healthcare or research, it went right into that worthless piece of garbage! I'm an American! Its my right to tell people when this happens! that is why our country prosper while yours withers away. This is a much bigger problem in Europe then here in the US, and as we say it home in Texas; "To hell with all that artsy fartsy carp".

I hope you now understand why you cant support art. ART IS SLOWING DOWN MANKIND! Just think if our brilliant minds of arts could have been used in a PROPER way!

Thank you :)

Why send flip flops to africa when they are just going to die from aids anyhow?

It is the artist's choice what to spend his money on. It does not make him a bad person, it does not mean he should have spent all the money on other people in other countries. If he wants to make art, then that is what he does. Surely all of you complaining out there don't spend all (or any)of your money on the people who truly need it, so why insult someone who is doing something he loves?

Wow why not get it over with and ban all art and head straight on to George Orwell,s 1984. For one art is a personal thing some people like it some dont, second it has gotten people through some of our species most trying times from commenting subversively, providing entertainment to educating the masses through imagery.

And sending a load of flip flops to a third world country as means of reliving poverty is more of a bloody insult than anything else.

Everyone knows you can't run with flip flops on... what use would they be to Africans?

Anonymous said...

omg...I don't know which is funnier...the piece of artwork or the comments! The whole thing is a hoot!
Have a happy Thanksgiving...be grateful...and lighten up.

I really love this! And all the flipflops can be recycled if people get sick of the monkey. Love it! Could be invented in the Netherlands <3

I dunno about the whole running around in flip flops rule. I've seen Afghanis run fast as hell in flip flops, they couldn't walk with sneakers

Yes, because more than food, clean water, condoms, medicine, proper shelter, and access to schooling, the Africans needs AMERICANS to send them FLIP FLOPS. Yes. you are completely right. And by "you are completely right" I mean, "you are a complete dumbass".

You also cannot appreciate art. Just because it is not a painting on canvas, does not mean that it is "garbage"

dear random texan. Shut the fuck up. you are an ignorant person, and you obviously haven't used the schooling that is a privilege to you at all. so stop complaining. Republicans and democrats are the same thing: Puppets of thee New World Order.

To all the people saying yeah send the flip flops to Africa a lot of help that would be. The point trying to be made is to not spend the money on the flip flops in the first place. It must be from the cities disposable income if they can manage to spend it on a monkey made out of flip flops. The city or artist could have used the funds in a much better way, for example Africa or the homeless in America. There is no shortage of poor and suffering across the globe and I would be willing to live a life without art in order to provide the needy with food and shelter.

its just art, you all need to just appreciate it for what it is and stop being so melodramatic. and just because some people in the world don't have shoes it doesn't mean we cant have artists who want to think big and have an original idea that they can actually pull off. id like to see you try and make what they did. also for those people who think that shoes aren't one of the most important thing for people in 3rd world countries and such like, should all go and watch this video

Dear Republican from Texas,

I regret to inform you that your poor use of grammar and obvious stupidity prevented me from reading your comment.

This was done in Brazil, for an art and design fair, the shoes will be given away afterward. People sure love to get on their self righteous high horse. Also, the USA isn't the only country in the world you idiots.

"wow lets waist shoes"

>Implying they didn't borrow, buy them with their own money, used them and then possibly shipped them off to Africa.

The shoes weren't destroyed in the process, they are still there and can very likely still be used. Are the shoes still wasted?

Has no one looked at the art, itself. I for one am concerned more for the poor flip flop monkey that fell from the building. Was it love, money, depression that caused its death, or a miscalculated jump that ended badly. Quit "waisting" everybody's you useless tree-hugging buttholes. We have a giant dead flip flopping monkey on our hands.

God forbid someone spell a word incorrectly in the haste of making a point. Art is important, this is cool. But the five basic needs do need to come before extras too.
And, I do back this up--I send help to Africa as much as possible for a sixteen year old on a budget.

Can we please just say "Wow, this is...art." and then move on? Thanks to the artist and building team for making this possible! :)

Aghhh! I can't believe the audacity of these people!

Look at that fence! That is a perfectly good fence that could be sent to Africa to protect villagers from lions. I mean, come on! We have SO MANY fences in America. Those poor villagers NEED FENCES!!

Dannighe said...

To the people saying this money could have been spent better, how much of your money goes to help Africans or homeless here in America? Do you need to internet? Do you need a computer, a tv, cable, a bigger house/apartment? It's much easier to criticize others than to do something yourself.

Anonymous said...

man people do seem to love sending shit to Africa

Flip flops are poor choice of footwear when in Africa, just saying. We send a lot of aid to Africa by the way. The issue is the warlords and thousand years of a broken society, not flip flops. If we sent flip flops to Afica we'd just have guys with guns and flip flops killing people while listening to snoop dog and drinking a coca cola.

People really could live their whole lives without shoes. It IS an added luxury of our daily life. They could also live very well without the money for them. Why don't some of you people get off your high horses and educate yourselves on some alternative living opportunities.

Wow, that's a lot of matching pairs of socks.

I would just like to say. FUCK Africa

Going barefoot is better than wearing these things. By far.
